I bought the RX1R III for ¥527,986.

The list price is ¥658,900, so I saved about ¥130,000.

The biggest discount came from a shareholder privilege (15% off). Even if you don't own Sony stock, shareholder coupon tickets are available on Yahoo! Auctions for around ¥800 — anyone can use them. I'm sharing the full breakdown so you can replicate it.

Why I Bought from Sony Store

The RX1R III launched at list price everywhere right after release — no retailer was discounting it. With the body price the same wherever you buy, the difference comes down to warranty and perks.

Sony Store includes a free 3-year wide warranty covering accidental damage, water damage, and more. Since I planned to carry this camera everywhere, I valued that warranty highly. Equivalent extended coverage with accidental protection from a mass retailer would cost tens of thousands of yen on its own.

This was by far the biggest discount. Sony shareholders receive a 15% off coupon for Sony Store once a year.

The key insight: shareholder tickets can be bought on Yahoo! Auctions. Even without owning Sony stock, you can get one for around ¥800. On a ¥650,000 camera, 15% off is nearly ¥100,000 in savings — an extraordinary return on an ¥800 investment.

Seasonal Coupon (10% off)

Sony Store distributes 10% off coupons during seasonal sale periods. The shareholder privilege and seasonal coupon cannot be combined. Since 15% beats 10%, I went with the shareholder coupon.

Sony Bank WALLET (-¥16,586)

Paying at Sony Store with a Sony Store partner card gives 3% off. Applied to the subtotal, the higher the price, the bigger the absolute saving.

Rakuten Rebates (-¥5,529)

Rakuten Rebates is a cashback service — access Sony Store through it and earn 1% back on your purchase. All you need is a Rakuten account. Highly recommended.

Partner Card Cashback (-¥2,764)

Cashback from the partner card based on usage tier. At minimum, you get 0.5% back.

After Actually Buying It

One thing I'll mention here: I surprisingly didn't feel anxious carrying a ¥530,000 camera around. Maybe it's the small size — walking around with it in my jacket pocket, I barely felt like I had expensive gear on me. That low barrier to carrying it naturally lowered my barrier to actually shooting.
